Hideout Festival 2019

Production and Technical Management

Location Novalja, Pag Island, Croatia Client Soundchannel UK

Hideout Festival is based on the idillic island of Pag, off the Dalmatian coast in Croatia. The festival takes over open air venues on the famous Zrce beach, combining mixed genres of electronic music and groundbreaking stage production to create a 5 day spectacle.

The 10,000 capacity festival has been running on Zrce beach since its inception in 2010 and in that time the venues have gone from strength to strength, actively developing the production each year. At the heart of the production design are the venues ‘shell’ shaped structures, with curved ground supports being the base of the Papaya, Noa and Aquarius stage designs. Each stage operates an afternoon and a nighttime session as well as an opening beach party and a programme of boat parties throughout the week, headline artists include Jamie Jones, Bicep, MK and Fisher.

Immersive provide production management for the festival, taking care of all production aspects including technical advancing, show design, production logistics, procurement and liaison with venues and suppliers.  The 2019 team consisted of Immersive founder and director Pete Shorten as Festival Production Manager, Stephen Sparke as Assistant Production Manager as well as a UK team of 7 Stage Managers and Lighting Designers.

Across the festival site there are over 30 peripheral LED screens on top of the stage LED systems. Video content was provided by Newcastle based Novak Studio who also flew out a team of 9 video designers and operators. The rest of the festival production team is made up of technicians and suppliers from all backgrounds across europe, many of whom fly in for the festival, and the end result is a truly trans-european collaboration of technical staff.

In the last ten years advances in LED technology have enabled video to become an integral show design tool. Mapped segments of LED feature as an integral part of the overall production aesthetic, seamlessly integrated into the lighting design. Immersive’s primary focus since joining the festival has been to ensure all disciplines work together seamlessly to create a dynamic and co-ordinated atmosphere that complements the music genre. This is made possible through great communication and pre-planning with the artist production teams to enable the festival audio, lighting, video and special effects operators to work in sync.

The festival hosts a range of electronic genres during the week with a diverse range of equipment requirements. All the backline requirements are managed by the stage management team to ensure seamless changeovers. Immersive has a wealth of experience working across european territories, and have developed great relationships with our local supply partners in the countries we work in. We look forward to continuing to build our relationships and expand our portfolio of work into 2021 and beyond, get in touch if you think we could help with your production or event.
