Inner City Electronic celebrates electronic music of all genres in a one day multi-venue metropolitan festival in the city of Leeds. The festival takes over venues of all shapes and sizes, bringing electronic artists across the world to play intimate sets. Amongst others the venues include The Warehouse, The Refectory, Duke Studios, Wire Club, Hifi, Distrikt and Freedom Mills.
Immersive were brought on board from the 2019 edition of the festival to manage full production, including providing a team of experienced audio and lighting engineers, stage managers and crew. After a successful year we returned with the team for 2020 for an ever growing event, headlined by Peggy Gou & Orbital Live.
We provided a custom ground-support solution for the main stage at The Refectory to work with LD Neil Holloway’s show design for Orbital. Space was of a premium and the venue doesn’t have any flying facilities so this consisted of a Litec QH30 static structure. The rear of the stage was backed by an 8m x 3.5m video wall using Alphapix 3.9mm panels. The lighting design was a rig of Martin Mac Vipers, SGM Q7 and Robe LEDWash 600 with additional towers the length of the room with Robe Pointes, molefays and more Q7’s.
Orbital’s live setup required a complex rolling riser setup but due to the limited space and full stage video wall backdrop we had to extend the wings to accommodate the 12’ x 8’ riser. Audio was provided by 3D Productions, with a Digico SD9 on monitors, placed SR away from the riser changes, and an SD12 on FOH provided by Kingdom Services. A combination of D&B Audiotechnik V8, J-Sub & D80 amplification was deployed for FOH with M4 & V-Sub’s for monitoring.
"We have worked with Immersive Precision for the last two editions of inner city electronic festival and seen our production standards massively improve. Immersive have a highly knowledgeable team that have been able to provide solutions to all our production needs; from main stages to smaller spaces. The quality of the audio, visual and technical equipment provided by Immersive is always top quality. It makes a massive difference to have event production to this standard and has elevated our festival every year. Perhaps even more importantly, Immersive have provided highly skilled, friendly staff that have taken the stress out of event production, thanks to careful attention to detail and pre-show planning. Immersive are just an excellent one stop production shop all round…”
Elsewhere in the city we delivered audio, lighting and DJ equipment packages to a number of the venues, overseen by our team of stage managers. This included a variety of complex DJ riser solutions to ensure perfect turntable performance in all locations. We had standby engineers on call throughout the festival with a stock of central spares that may be required to supplement the venues existing infrastructure which ensured the festival ran without a hitch throughout.
The daytime programme included conferences and live workshops from respected artists and industry professionals held at Leeds College Music and Duke Studio’s Sheaf St venue. This included a touching tribute to Andrew Weatherall, titled ‘Fail We May, Sail We Must’. Andrew was due to play at the festival alongside Sean Johnston, musical partner in their alias ‘A Love From Outer Space’, before he passed away in February this year. The tribute featured a special talk with long term friends of Andrew and a selection of special musical memories. Sean went on to continue to play under ALFOS for the festival set later that evening at Sheaf St.
