Immersive were tasked with providing production for a luxury conference and awards experience for skincare brand NuSkin. The remote private island of Obonjan is located off the Dalmatian coast of Croatia and reachable only by small vessels. The production requirements of the event were tailored to take into account the natural logistical challenges of the event and a series of event sites were developed in locations around the island.
We were brought on board to manage all technical production requirements for two back to back 3 day corporate events on the private Croatian Island of Obonjan. The brief was to provide a luxury getaway experience, with the highest standards of production, for Nu Skin on behalf of our client – travel & incentive agency Black Tomato.
Obonjan is a remote Island in the Adriatic sea that poses some of the biggest logistical obstacles that any production company could face. The rough terrain, steep hills and scorpions just to name a few. Nevertheless, a team was hand-picked including Lighting, Audio and Video engineers as well as technicians and crew to take on the challenge of providing technical solutions to the desires of the client. Starting with having to charter a ferry, then working on multiple sites across the island, it’s safe to say that the production schedule needed to be planned down to a tee to ensure everything ran smoothly.
Lighting across the sites used several themes. Using long runs of festoon lighting, walkways were lit up to the guest camping areas and created a real glow to the scenery at night. One of the aims was to bring out as much of the natural surroundings as possible by flooding them with colour. Our range of SGM Q7’s made this possible. We used wireless SmartBats to uplight as many trees as we could and Chauvet Colorado 1 Quad Zoom IP Par to bring the architecture to life. Using generic lights including Strand Quartet Fresnels and ETC Source 4 Juniors we lit up The Island’s pool and restaurant area to create a vibrant yet relaxing setting for evening meals and create the ultimate summer evening. D&B Audiotechnik systems were deployed for the live bands and DJ’s who played across the island, creating a great pool or harbourside atmosphere for the guests.

The main event of the trip was a poolside gala dinner and awards ceremony. We provided a stage for the live band with a litec truss ground support and a rig of Robe lighting fixtures. The whole event was open air, with care taken for contingency planning in case of bad weather. We also built a pontoon into the middle of the 2m deep swimming pool so the client’s host could present the awards from the centre of the pool. To facilitate the load-in the pool was drained, and the platform was built using Prolyte stagedex then custom clad in decking timber to create a natural finish. We lit the presenter using profiles from the top of the restaurant roof and Prolights Smartbats surrounded the pool, all controlled wirelessly by our LD.
The island of Obonjan boasts some amazing locations, including an impressive amphitheatre, an open sided pavilion and a number of harbour bars and jetty’s. Each location came with its own challenges that the team had to overcome. The hot weather, stairs and rocky terrain made for a tough build, but once all was up and running, the results were spectacular.
